Statement of the Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome, on the Devastating Floods in Afghanistan
Rome, 23 August 2022
The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome, is beyond deeply devastated to hear heavy rains triggered flash floods in Logar, Noorsitan, Maidan Wardak, Parwan and Ghazni provinces of Afghanistan on Saturday. The deadly floods killed at least 70 people, injured others and destroyed hundred acres of crops as well as many households' assets and livelihood.
This disaster comes at a time when Afghanistan has already been enduring a severe economic and humanitarian crisis over the past one year under the control of the Taliban group. As we sought the support of the international community and humanitarian organizations to provide emergency assessments and crucial relief items to those who are affected, we extend our deepest condolences to the victims’ families and pray for a speedy recovery of all those who are injured.
The Embassy and Mission of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Rome shall continue to diligently work and cooperate with relevant international organizations to address this issue and facilitate the process of delivering immediate humanitarian aid.
